Everyone always asks how much overhang can I have and what is typical. At the edge of a countertop a typical overhang is 1.5 inches. The reason for this is that today's dishwashers and ovens are designed to sit at a 25.5 deep counter depth. This over hang hides the buttons on the top door controlled dishwashers and cups the front panel of a modern Oven and allows replacement when the old one fails.
The maximum unsupported overhang for granite in any direction is 12 inches. With the use of Corbels, Brackets, Legs or specially designed counter extender brackets this can be extended. We will assist you in making a safe design. It is up to your cabinet installer to actually provide and install proper support.
